Hiring – Crawfordsville Main Street Full Time Director
Position Title: PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Supervision: CMS Part Time Associate Director reports directly to Program Director​

Status: Full Time
Hours: Regular full-time with occasional evenings and weekends
Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
The office is on the 4th floor in the Fusion 54 Building, located in downtown Crawfordsville, IN. The position requires 40% of time spent in the office or in Crawfordsville at in-person meetings, and 60% can be work from home. Attendance at some key community events will be required. Occasionally, the position will require meetings in other Crawfordsville locations, driving to events and out of town meetings/conferences, physical activity involved with events, downtown decorating, downtown beautification efforts, and setup/takedown of event equipment. Ability to work outside on limited occasions throughout the year.
Benefits: Health Insurance is not offered. Crawfordsville Main Street’s Chamber of Commerce
membership enables the employee to sign up for access to the Franciscan Health Clinic for an
affordable monthly fee.
Salary: $45,000 to $50,000 based on experience​

Crawfordsville Main Street is dedicated to driving the progress, well-being, preservation, promotion and user friendliness of the Crawfordsville Commercial Historic District. It is our goal to serve the community with high quality programs to make downtown Crawfordsville a vibrant, active, and authentic historic small town, and elevate Crawfordsville to become a leading destination. CMS was organized in 2002 as a 501[c]3 nonprofit organization. It is an Accredited Indiana Main Street with the state coordinating program and long-time member of Main Street America.
In partnership with the city, local organizations, and businesses, CMS addresses vital issues that affect downtown Crawfordsville including;

CMS’s efforts follow the Main Street America “Four Point Approach©” strategy of Economic Vitality, Design, Promotion, and Organization.
CMS has an annual contract for professional planning and consulting services with the City of Crawfordsville. This agreement includes services for the preservation of resources in the Crawfordsville Commercial Historic District and for landscape maintenance at Pike Place and the Marie Canine Plaza.
CMS maintains a healthy collaborative relationship with these economic development partners – City of Crawfordsville, Crawfordsville/Montgomery County Chamber, Visit Montgomery County, Wabash College, Montgomery County Leadership Academy and Indiana Landmarks Western Regional Office.​

Primary Responsibilities​

Board Administration and Support - Supports operations and administration of the Board and its committees. Ensures meetings are held and documented, and produces program report before meetings, to guide discussions in addition to board requested topics.

Indiana Main Street Relationship & Administration - Works with Indiana Main Street (IMS) to understand priorities and expectations for CMS. Oversees Board communication for alignment with IMS priorities. Works with IMS to understand the ongoing requirements for state accreditation, and ensure local CMS adherence.

Main Street America – Works with the national organization to fulfill annual requirements for continuing Affiliate Main Street America Membership.

City of Crawfordsville – Assist the Board with fulfilling all requirements of our annual contract with the City and the City’s expectations for Fusion 54 partnership.

Events - Oversees all Crawfordsville Main Street events, working with staff, Board and volunteers to ensure success. Responsible for volunteer participation, vendor agreements, event setup/takedown plans, performance commitments, etc. Identify new event opportunities, in partnership with the Board. Launch schedule of events to ensure regular and high-quality event series.

Committee Support – Participates and actively engages in committee meetings. Ensures work plans are progressing, assists when goals have stalled. Work with Committee Chairs to coordinate expertise to accomplish work plans. Brings in resources and direction to help bring committee programs to life. Provides guidance to align initiatives with the Main Street Four Point Approach and when appropriate, with IMS programming.

Program and Project Management - Oversees and supports the design, marketing, promotion, delivery and quality of programs and projects. Provides quarterly and annual reports to Indiana Main Street, the City and other stakeholders.

Downtown Historic Preservation – Actively promote preservation principles and practices in the downtown community. Become knowledgeable of the same and participate in educational opportunities to gain greater proficiency. Collaborate with the City’s Historic Preservation Commission and Indiana Landmarks Western Regional Office Director.

Grant Procurement - Identify and source grants for CMS funding. Apply for available public and private grants, completing and submitting successful applications. Work closely with state and federal programs to gain understanding of grant requirements and differentiators to win available funds. Work with the CMS Associate Director to write and assemble grants.

Fundraising - Oversees fundraising planning and implementation in support of the annual budget, along with the Executive Committee. Responsible for submitting proposals and administrating fundraising records and documentation. Seeks and implements new ideas to increase CMS funding.

Administrative Reporting – Working with Associate Director to ensure data reporting in Maestro and IMS reports are assembled accurately and timely.

Grant Management – Oversees the execution of awarded grants and ensures CMS adheres to grant regulations. Work with CMS-awarded grant recipients to support their understanding of requirements, and drive progress of the grant funded work.

Financial Management - Works with the Board Treasurer to create and manage organizational budgets and banking. Manages organizational financial resources. Works with CMS Accountant to maintain timely financial records and tax reporting.

Relationship Management - Fosters and maintains positive, collaborative working relationships with Crawfordsville businesses and residents, CMS members and sponsors, District property owners, the City of Crawfordsville staff and leadership, CMS community partners, Indiana Main Street, and Main Street America. Act as matchmaker to put District building owners and potential tenants/buyers in touch.

Marketing, Community and Public Relations - Develops and conducts on-going awareness and education programs designed to enhance the public’s appreciation of the District’s value, events, businesses and other assets. Work closely with media partners, and manage social media platforms, and maintain website. Works with local influencers and local programs to cross market CMS.

Builds and establishes relationships with District Businesses – Regularly communicates with District business leaders, property owners and retailers in support of the CMS mission. Develops programs designed to increase local business participation in Historic Downtown Crawfordsville.

Oversee CMS contractors – ensure adherence to contractual agreements (i.e. landscapers)

Strategic Planning – Alongside the Board, staff and committees - Supports the development and implementation of an overall strategic plan and vision for the organization.

Staffing - Manages staff and contractor activities and responsibilities. Creates formal review process for other CMS staff and leads.

Qualifications​

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in accredited Main Street local program management, business, nonprofit management, urban planning, historic preservation, landscape architecture, architecture, marketing, or communications

Ability to drive and owns a personal vehicle. Ability to participate in physical activity such as setting up/taking down/storing event equipment and seating, help with seasonal decorating, and work outside throughout the year on downtown activities

Experience managing a nonprofit organization or small business preferred

Demonstrated ability to successfully raise funds, increase revenue and meet financial goals

Strong financial oversight , fund development and fundraising skills

Flexible, adaptable working style. Able to self-manage and work independently

Able to delegate and oversee staff and volunteer work

Technology savvy, including effectively using social media to create awareness of programs and events

Experience with Canva or similar graphic applications is advantageous

Must be able to work with all personality types, and excel at conflict resolution and problem solving

Strong work ethic and drive with a willingness to work on a non-traditional work schedule

Strong communication skills, including public speaking and writing
